The Nightmare Ends

If you haven't seen it, you have now.

The picture has been floating around for several days now.

The Picture is fake.

The story below is not.

Cheney 'cabal' hijacked foreign policy
By Edward Alden in Washington
The Financial Times
October 20 2005

Vice-President Dick Cheney and a handful of others had hijacked the government's foreign policy apparatus, deciding in secret to carry out policies that had left the US weaker and more isolated in the world, the top aide to former Secretary of State Colin Powell claimed on Wednesday.

In a scathing attack on the record of President George W. Bush, Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, chief of staff to Mr Powell until last January, said: “What I saw was a cabal between the vice-president of the United States, Richard Cheney, and the secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld, on critical issues that made decisions that the bureaucracy did not know were being made.

“Now it is paying the consequences of making those decisions in secret, but far more telling to me is America is paying the consequences.”

Mr Wilkerson said his decision to go public had led to a personal falling out with Mr Powell, whom he served for 16 years at the Pentagon and the State Department.

“He's not happy with my speaking out because, and I admire this in him, he is the world's most loyal soldier."

Among his other charges:

■ The detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere was “a concrete example” of the decision-making problem, with the president and other top officials in effect giving the green light to soldiers to abuse detainees. “You don't have this kind of pervasive attitude out there unless you've condoned it.”

■ Condoleezza Rice, the former national security adviser and now secretary of state, was “part of the problem”. Instead of ensuring that Mr Bush received the best possible advice, “she would side with the president to build her intimacy with the president”.

■ The military, particularly the army and marine corps, is overstretched and demoralised. Officers, Mr Wilkerson claimed, “start voting with their feet, as they did in Vietnam. . . and all of a sudden your military begins to unravel”.

Mr Wilkerson said former president George H.W. Bush “one of the finest presidents we have ever had” understood how to make foreign policy work. In contrast, he said, his son was “not versed in international relations and not too much interested in them either”.

And, just in case you missed it, this is a real story too.

White House Watch: Cheney resignation rumors fly

Sparked by today's Washington Post story that suggests Vice President Cheney's office is involved in the Plame-CIA spy link investigation, government officials and advisers passed around rumors that the vice president might step aside and that President Bush would elevate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"It's certainly an interesting but I still think highly doubtful scenario," said a Bush insider. "And if that should happen," added the official, "there will undoubtedly be those who believe the whole thing was orchestrated – another brilliant Machiavellian move by the VP."

Said another Bush associate of the rumor, "Yes. This is not good." The rumor spread so fast that some Republicans by late morning were already drawing up reasons why Rice couldn't get the job or run for president in 2008."

I remember Watergate.

Well.

We all knew that Nixon and his cronies were really bad guys.

What we didn't know was how bad.

Last night, when I heard about this resignation rumour,

I mentioned it to the attendant in the gym.

"Why would Cheney do that", he asked?

I took a breath and spoke really slowly.

Based on the Downing Street memo and all the other evidence,

it is clear that the Vice President and his cabal fixed the intelligence

around the desire to invade a sovereign country.

When a country invades a country that has not attacked that country,

it is against international law.

Those who lead their countries in violation of international law,

are war criminals.

The attendant just looked at me with that look I get.

He can handle it.

Can we?

Fiction is just as interesting as reality and the fiction is reality so where do we go from here? The average Joe in the street is uninformed of all this to be sure. I have friends that still love the junta. They only know what happens on their block and on the television news if they even watch that. They think that Juan and Lucretia died for freedom and democracy. Frontline last night was compelling and made Rummy look like the devil incarnate. (The End TImes).

Wilma may break the camel's back,

Avian Flu will for sure if it does mutate and we have another 1918.

If that hapens and the case fatality rate goes over 5% then society will breakdown temporarily. In 1918 there were 1.6 billion people and 17% lived in the urban areas and there were 15 cities of over a million people.

Today there are 6.6 billlion people living in 400 cities over a million.

Doctor Gratttan Woodson in a WHO article says there is a 1 in 3 chance of the H5N1 virus crossing over to cause a major pandemic and a 2 in 3 of a minor one. And he even says when it will occure. Between Dec 2005 and March 2006. So he says it would be prudent to be self reliant for about three months.

Damn, did you have to ruin the moment by explaining that it really didn't happen?

Thanks for the Cheney cabal article Oz.

Its interesting to think how far deep the rabbit hole goes in terms of those in power.

It's likley to never be a one man operation (or even a couple as in Rumy, Bush, Cheney, etc.)

I think those in power are guided in the directions and seem likely to be puppets themselves.

Not to say they are not responsible for their actions. Those butchers surely are.

Its often times easier to think that the results of these people are caused by ignorance of the world, blind greed, and other self based features of which they epitomize. And these are likely to be strong contributing factors.

But one thing that is rarely, if ever brought up is the question of intention in bringing on the current conditions purposefully.

- The economy on the brink of complete collapse

- The Avian Flu

- The 'insurgency' in Iraq

- 911

All these things point and more point to one thing - conditions that DEMAND complete and total contol.

“The older dictators fell because they could never supply their subjects with enough bread, enough circuses, enough miracles, and mysteries. Under a scientific dictatorship, education will really work' with the result that most men and women will grow up to love their servitude and will never dream of revolution. There seems to be no good reason why a thoroughly scientific dictatorship should ever be overthrown.”
~ Aldos Huxley, A Brave New World Revisited

Interesting times we live in.
